What is church, part 2. “Community and Covenant”

In my last blog (I know it was a while ago) I talked about an example of a church that was really a family, a community of believers that went far deeper than simply seeing each other on Sunday mornings.  We shared, we loved, we lived together.

Later this year, my family will be embarking on an amazing adventure of community and covenant.  Covenant goes even further than Community, in that your lives are linked and devoted to the spiritual growth of the family of believers. But–this isn’t your purpose, to build and strengthen each other, it’s a natural outgrowth of your real purpose–which is to spread the love and power of Jesus Christ across the globe. My family, with some extended family and covenant family, will be moving to Spain to establish a base of operations for G42–“G42” is short for the 42nd Generation, which as described in Matthew 1, like Christ, is our spiritual birth into our inheritance as sons and daughters of God.

G42 is an organization that will include the World Race, orphan villages and care points, training centers, and other ministries designed to enable people to live their lives to the fullest while spreading the Word of God.

While in Spain, we will begin the first session of “The Spain Training Center” (final name still yet to be determined) that will be a jumping off point for those who wish to take the Word across the globe–to Africa, Asia, Anywhere–to spread the concepts of Discipleship, Koininea, Freedom, and Dominion.  (Check out the link to read more on those.)  To do that the training center will focus on:

– development of increased intimacy in prayer, meditation and worship
– character strengthening and disciplines
– servanthood
– theological back up for key issues
– prophetic activation
– covenant – taking care of one another in a  family setting , fathering, marriage
– practical training in management, leadership, coaching and business
– training in how  to lead small groups , church planting , pastoral equipping
– adventure and team building (the Pyrenees are 2-3 hours away !)
– heart issues and counseling
– discerning life calling
– planning for the future

Those things are the basis for what a church really is. My family is ready for more, is desperate for more, than the 9-5 life and the Sunday-Wednesday church experience. We want to live ‘community and covenant.’ We believe that we’ve found the way to do that.
