Blog With Your Audience In Mind.

This is the first in my series entitled, I really don’t know what I’m doing blogging, so most of this is just my opinion.

One thing I do as I write my blogs is to imagine my audience reading my blog post. Sometimes, I have a specific person in mind as I write a blog… I know that if it will be beneficial to them, it would probably be beneficial to others. Sometimes, I have a general “type” of person in mind… it helps me have the right tone and message.

Know Your Audience

Do you know who your audience is? Do you know who you are writing for? Take a look at the folks who have commented and read your blog in the past, and then write about what they need to hear.

Focus Your Message

The more focused, the better. Knowing your audience and having someone in mind will help you clarify and focus your message.

Blog/Write/Speak/Teach With Your Audience In Mind

This doesn’t apply just to blogging. As I am writing teaching outlines, or speaking points, I am thinking about the person in the chair:

– The girl on the front row, listening intently and taking good notes: what am I saying that will be beneficial to her?
– The guy on the back row, just trying to look cool, but who really needs to hear my message: how do I grab his attention and generate a change in his life?
– Or the one who already knows what I am saying, but just doesn’t have the opportunity or the ideas how to apply it: I am giving them the inspiration they need to get started?
