Book Review: Stories That Feed Your Soul by Tony Campolo

In short, I was underwhelmed by Stories That Feed Your Soul by Tony Campolo. The last Tony Campolo book I read was Letters to a Young Evangelical, which was a great, thought provoking book that really made me take a hard look at what Jesus would do (or what Paul would write) in today’s society. […]

Introducing… Fun Friday!

Okay, so my plan is to give my devoted, loyal, and quite handsome readers a blog each Friday with some fun links and sites gathered in my internet surfing. research. I usually have some pretty heavy topics, and although I try not to come across too intense, I realize that a lot of my topics […]

How the Kindle Ruined My Life

I’m a gadget guy, I have to admit. So when my wife got me an Amazon Kindle 3G last Christmas, I was stoked. I had read some of the reviews: wifi access to download books, discounted book prices, capability to hold thousands of books & magazines, and a book-like display. But as I began to use my Kindle, I realized that those descriptions were just the tip of the iceberg…

Seven Rules For Dating My Daughters

So I think this time together with my daughters is critical… I call them our “dates” together, and yes, we often talk about how I think they should be treated by boys as they get older, and how they can safely confide with me and Rebecca, and how they should be growing and learning as a young girl should. But it is stressful to have a daughter, and of course I want her to be safe.

Book Review: Poke the Box by Seth Godin

The latest offering from Seth Godin, Poke the Box, is his manifesto on starting. It resides somewhere between a high-tempo motivational speech and a swift kick in the butt. We should all read this quick book, and then pass it on.

What Is At Your Core?

“People don’t at first follow worthy causes. They follow worthy leaders who promote causes they believe in” – John Maxwell

Your dreams, your goals, and your mission in life will only go so far, no matter how passionate, how organized, or how persuasive you are . If you don’t have character, you will not be an effective leader. You may be successful for a while, you might even have a flourishing ministry or church, but the underlying ‘faultlines’ will undermine and destroy the best organizations. Character is key.

The Day My Theology Died

I just read this blog from Dennis Gable, and I’d like to re-post it here. Dennis just graduated from the G42 Leadership Academy and is now moving to Arizona to begin his dream, a cafe and creative center. //Dave

Upon arriving in Spain, I quickly learned that if I did not kill my theology, it would kill me.

We are told by the words of Jesus that until we are willing to lose our lives, we will never actually be alive…

The Cost of Not Going…

I gave a challenge to the men this past week during our weekly G42 “Man-Time.” We often talk about being dangerous men, ready for risk, ready to “Go.” We also hear weekly from men & women who have already gone, and we hear stories of people like Sunitha, an Indian woman who has planted 42 churches in the past 5 years, sleeping on nothing more than a mat on dirt floors, being stoned, yet still going back and bringing the Message of Christ where it has never been before.

So why don’t we go?

Why Blog?

Bottom Line Up Front: I’m not a great writer. I’m a decent teacher. I was a good military officer (and that’s where I get most of my stories). But I am a smart guy, a perfectionist, a hard worker, and I hope most of all, I am an example, or better yet, an inspiration. Another […]
